I have heard bits and pieces about the Alapin variation of the Sicilian, and that it is less theoretical than other lines for white. Is that true? Anyone have any experience with this variation, and is it good?
It's one of the most popular ways to avoid the main lines and I've played it for quite a while and like it. In certain lines you need to be prepared to accept an isolated queen pawn, but I don't find this a problem.
