Top 25 Moves after e4 e5: THE FULL TIERLIST
D TIER: 19: a4, Delayed Ware Opening: Are you serious? This is even worse than the Ware Opening because Ra3 is unavailable. 18: g4, Sahara Attack: What are you doing? If you play this, I don't know what to say. At least the Grob Opening has traps! 17: h4, Myers Opening: For gods crying! This is 100 elo chess at its finest. 16: Ke7, The Bongcloud: This invites Qh4! where you have 3 moves: Nc3 (Best Move because b5 is refuted with b4), d3?! which starts a forest fire after c5! c4 b5, & f6? blocking the Knight on f1. Not to mention no more castling & blocking the Queen & Bishop. 15.5: Qe7, Shy Queen Attack: A (somewhat) better Bongcloud.
C TIER: 15: c5, The Whale: Quite dubious but can traverse to the Dresden Opening after Nc6 Nf3. 14: g3, Boston Attack: FINALLY! A NORMAL MOVE! We are planning to place a lethal Bishop on g2 where it safeguards Black's B-pawn for a long time. This can transition into the Konstaniopolsky after Nc6 Nf3. 13: Qg4, Rhine Variation: This brings the Queen out too early, where Black attacks the Queen easily & if Black is lucky, White will lose the Queen from being trapped, pinned, or forked. 12: b3, Saar's Attack: same as the Boston Attack but the G-pawn is more used by Black, so the new Bishop on b2 will be a dreadnought. 11: Be2, Fred Variation: here Nc6 Nf3 transposes into the Taylor's Attack.
B TIER: 10: Qf6, Napoleon Attack: We target the weak f7 pawn. 9: a3, Montpelier System: This may look stupid, but it controls b4, a key square. 8: c3, MacLeod Attack, We prepare for d4. This invites a Ponziani Transposition as well. 7: Bd6, Tortoise Opening: Defends e4.
A TIER: 6: Qh5, Wayward Queen Attack: On paper, this may look weird, but if g6?? then Qxe5+! & we win the Rook. If Nc6 then Bc4 Nf3?? Qxf7#! mate. 5: Bb4, Portuguese Opening: By now, Black will premove Nc6, where we play Nf3 to transition to the Ruy Lopez. 4.5: Nf3, King's Knight Variation: Same as the Portuguese Opening but with more possibilities. 4: d6, Leonardis Variation: We protect e4 & prepare development for our dark square bishop.
S TIER: 3: Ne7, Alapin Variation: Extremely Underrated thanks to multiple traps we can do with it. 2: d4, Center Game: I play the Danish Gambit from this where White has a huge attack. 1: f4, King's Gambit: A great gambit where we gain a huge boost in development. IF THEY PLAY BC5, DO NOT TAKE! YOU LOSE THE ROOK! Other than that, we are done! You now know the best & worst openings!
