What's Scotch?

There is not a best opening, just many good openings.

Scotch is 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4

It's direct and simple, there aren't alot of tricks, just straightforward development.

for me the best openning is the center pawn either king or queen pawn......

I played the scotch a lot when i was learning still do if they like trading you end up with a queen dominating the board if they dont it can lead to a very closed positional game you never know what your going to get with the scotch making it a very good for learning and fun.

speaking about openings, its funny how if you play the ruy lopez, the first 15 moves could be the same old lines used over and over again where white plays d4 and black plays c5.  But the middle games of the Ruy are very interesting.  The french defense gets you into the strangest positions if black chooses the Winaver Defense.  ITs so strange... yet when i try it with black out of curiosity, i get into complicated poistions where black is most certain to destroy white's center, but alas, white gets tactical chances on the wings.  Openings like the French, Alekhine, and King's Indian make me wonder if maybe some openings are objectively inferior than others.  Like a lot of times when i play the King's Indian, white can close the position and suffocate the hell out of me.  One more thing, you must be very careful when going up against gambits such as the Danish.  they are very good weopons against an unprepared opponent.

It depends on the player...i think
Dash3000
which one do you prefer? ...an open game? ...closed game? ...or just semi-open? are you a defensive or or offensive player? try these questions and look for an opening...
Dash3000
hmmm...for me...I don't prefer to use common openings...

I myself am a very attacking player so i tend to use more agressive openings like the grand-prix attack and sicilian dragon but my advice is to start out on a reasonably difficult opening with lots of theory rather than starting out on a very simple opening like the 'italian' because when you get better the opening wont be atall effective or satisfactory. But i cant really recommend and opening as i dont know what kind of player you are: attacking, tactical ect. My advice would be to find an opening you like then study the hell out of it! Smile

The bongcloud attack!

It involves an attack on the enemy position with one's king. It never fails.

The topic here is OPENINGS. How can you even suggest an attack to one's opponent with one's king? That's comprimising your position while getting behind in developement. Likelamborghinis is a beginner and doesn'y need such mean advice.

Just wondering surely there must be an oppening with the highest recorded win rating making it the best technically does anyone know what got the best win percentage.

The best chess opening depends on the person.

I love playing e4 as white, but some people don't like to play e4.

They prefer to play d4 or c4 or etc...

I like playing e4 because you can get aggressive attacks, and I like to attack.
