chess.com needs a like button...

if i had been building one, it wouldn't be finished for a few more years

ChessBase Encyclopedia has all the openings, as well as surveys which explain the moves.

I searched the internet for three hours, but could nowhere find a simple collection where all the openings are collected with their main lines. First I thought lets download some app where all the openings are explained. But no such thing exists. But not even some pgn file? I mean there are three million chess books, but no one had the idea  to put together a pgn file with the most important openings and its main variations??

i'm working on one now, but it's a few years away from finishing...

Hey. I was thinking that maybe we could set up an online project where people submit the openings from NCO that they have inputted into their computer? For example, if you have saved the moves from the Scandinavian (Introduction) page 124 then you could upload that file and it would get added to the full database. In terms of resources, it could be done using some sort of Wiki-type page or even GitHub. I don't think one person could complete the project - and stay mentally stable! But I suspect many of us have already converted the openings we play/study from NCO into Chessbase (or whatever software you use). What do you guys think? Any ideas or appetite?

Have you done it? Can I join in on the project?

Hi there,
I was looking for the same, unfortunately I didn't like any of the solutions (in addition, the Wiki is outdated and difficult to use), and finally developed my own system to do it. You can get a detailed overview for all or selected openings or variants, the movement tree, etc. As a result, you get a list in a convenient format, e.g. pgn, where you can study comfortably, and I can also prepare any other format or visualization.
If there are ideas on how to finance such a project, because there is still a lot of work on data organisation, all the functions that I planned, then I'm open.
If you are interested, I can present a demo on my twitch or discord stream.

Here is something you might want to check out. It's not ALL the openings and all lines, but you might find it interesting. There's a video that talks about what it's about.

Not free, but not expensive either.
You can get it for $27 after buying Yevhenii Yelisieiev's opening course (which is very good, it helps you to understand openings instead of just learning them by heart. )

All the best!
