Its a very weird mystery to see the London System as legendary ? despite its dry nature while the Sicilian Dragon is garbage ? despite its tons of tactics if played correctly meanwhile the Reti is somehow said to be better than the English ?

I hate the Dragon. I played it for years, and white's attacks are almost always just so much faster than black's if he plays the Yugoslav. I think the Accelerated Dragon is vastly superior.

The London System is a lot more interesting than people give it credit for. You can actually get quick attacks with the London with early-g4 ideas. People who say the London is boring have probably not done enough actual studying of it to know any better.

I prefer the Reti over the English, yes. It's a very flexible opening, and can transpose into a lot of different things that I really like. The English is great, but I simply don't like it as much.

Okay, I made an objective tier list now as well:

The Objective one is worse.

It doesn't line up with my preferences, but I think it's a more objectively accurate one when you base it on how sound they are and how successful they are in tournament play.

Feel free to suggest a change; since it's not based on my preferences, I may be willing to switch things around a bit.

When the benoni is in legendary while the sicilian is in garbage we have some education problems.

I like the respect for the Petroff on this one. The Petroff is another I opening that I feel is too highly touted as boring, so I always like it when I see praise for it.

I'm happy to play a boring position as black, but not as white. But at club level I find the Petrov just isn't drawish the way people usually say it is. If you look at online games, even at 2200+ level, draws are rare... there are no really drawish openings.

On the other hand... maybe there are ways to spice up the London but as black I never see people do that, and yes the game is very boring. I think white can aspire to more than what the vast majority of London players do. But I would be interested to see the lines you have in mind for white there.

Overall the Petroff ends in draws 38.5% of the time. That is bound to be a higher draw percentage than what defenses tend to be, but not nearly as drawish as some have made it out to be. I've seen the Petroff pushed as a safe defense for the King. That was why I took up playing it, but I was repeatedly not feeling so safe.

38% sounds like the master games database. If you aspire to play in tournaments you probably should use that database / begin thinking about draw rates. But if you just intend to play online... these are the draw rates for the petrov at 2200+ level on lichess in rapid -

WCPetrosian

That's the Big Database at 365chess (38.5%). The Master Database at 365chess has the Petroff at 63.2%.

ibrust

What is that data based off?

WCPetrosian

I can't seem to find detail info.
