Hi, yes I would love to join! I'm on the south side so a venue on the south would be better for me. But anything's fine.
Starting a Chess Group in Red Deer, Alberta
Hey Rex. Thanks for your interest! We have moved the Saturday afternoon meetup to Red Deer College. We meet at the tables just outside the library at around 2:00pm and play until around 5:00pm. You are welcome to join us anytime!
Hey thanks for dropping a note!
We've had trouble finding places to meet up in the past year due to all the lockdowns and closures of public buildings. We're currently just meeting occasionally at my home, but it's out in the county and about a half hour's drive from Red Deer.
Our plan is to resume weekly chess meetups on Saturday afternoons outdoors in Rotary Park once the weather permits. I can certainly keep you posted about that.
Hey, I stopped by Rotary today and I musta missed the spot where people were playing. If you guys are still interested in playing a couple games throw me text at 4033409674. Can't wait to play an over the board game again.
@JoelJ19 Thanks for your interest. You're very welcome to join in! Yes, the group is currently meeting Saturday afternoons from about 2:00-5:00 pm in Rotary Picnic Park (downtown Red Deer). Just look for chess boards set up at the picnic tables and that'll be our group.
Is there anywhere that people are meeting to play chess in Red Deer? I tried at the Red Deer public library but they told me it had been canceled. If anyone has any information that would be great. Thanks.
@AndrewBenson2987 Yes indeed. We are currently meeting at Rotary Picnic Park downtown Red Deer from around 2:00-5:00 pm every Saturday afternoon. The group is pretty small at the moment, so just keep your eyes peeled for a couple of chess boards in the picnic table area near the main parking lot.
No need to RSVP, just come on by. You can bring a board if you have one, but usually we have enough. In the event of rain or other inclement weather, you can find us (same time) at Parkland Mall food court.
Thanks for your interest.
Are yall meeting at parkland mall tomorrow cause of potential rain? Or will it be at Rotary Park still?
Hi everyone. I recently moved to Red Deer, Alberta and I'm hoping to start a weekly chess meetup for players in the area. I had in mind something pretty informal to begin with: perhaps players could bring their own sets and meet at a coffee shop to play casual games. I started a group like this in Vancouver and it got to be pretty successful. I know that some players currently meet Monday evenings at Dawe library from 5-6pm, so perhaps we could expand on that.
Please message me and/or join my new chess.com club if you live in the Red Deer area and would be interested in meeting up for some action over-the-board.
