Why not wander into your local - perhaps The Hunter's Inn - with a chess board and set. Buy a pint, set up the board, and see if you can lure anyone into a game. Hey presto! You have the beginnings of a chess club in Tewksbury. You can work on accreditation later.

I didn't appreciate that. Could he go into a pub with his parents - and not buy any alcohol?

Offence not intended, but aren't pubs that don't serve food only meant to allow 18+ in them (ie part of the licensing laws instead of the sale of alcohol to minors)? I was pretty sure that was the law.. The problem is that you're not likely to get a game in a Wetherspoon's or one of the mainstream pubs that does food, partly because of the layout and partly because of the clientelle.

that is true i dont want to exactly go against a drunk man who has one pint too many

kco keeps beating me up on the board as well! Help!  Wink

Under 'best chess advice', it mentioned that, when playing a stranger in a bar, let him castle first - then copy whatever style of castling he uses e.g. swapping king and rook positions.

mathsart

ok lets have a look

i really enjoy chess, but i never get a chance to play it, so it would be lovely if we had a chess club in Tewkesbury so we can play chess all the time but only if it was on a "SUNDAY"

rexbo : where did the club end up playing? at home? at school? in the local pub(!)?

mathsart : have you considered playing chess on school premises?

"Any Time At All", naturally.

("I'll Be There" was the title of a hit for The Jackson 5, and Mariah Carey).

Did someone just say: "LIBRARY?"

"Well today I was online, making my moves... and the librarian came up to me and said, NO GAMES ALLOWED ON THE COMPUTERS!!."   http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/chess-discrimination
