Famous chess players?

I am doing a project in school over famous people and I was thinking of making my report over a famous chess player. If you have a favorite chess player post their name. The famous chess player with the most votes will be the chess player I will do my project on.

PS: Player has to have at least 2 books written about him.

Gary Kasparov. I think he is a man for all seasons. Brave, willing to buck a restrictive regime. He showed skills and intelligence in and out of the chess of the board.

Robert Fischer!

Sorry, if I had to do such a project, the last person I would pick would be chess player.  You have such modern history as a country why not pick a contemporary persona?

Yeah if you live in the US it has to be Bobby Fischer!

I think Kasparov would be pretty interesting, what with all the politics and such. Then again, I must admit that don't know anything about famous chess players, so maybe there are a bunch of other really interesting ones.

Hello,

I must agree with LisaV.My vote goes to Judit Polgar, not only for being the only women to successfully compete with the top male players, but would be of great value for your work to also mention the way she was trained by her family.A work about her would surely make the difference.

Good luck :)

I think if you're doing a project on a chess player, then Bobby Fischer would give the most mileage, and he would be of most interest to those people who know nothing about chess. He was a volatile genius, fascinating and repugnant. And it was he who ended decades of Soviet domination of the game in an unforgettable World Championship in 1972 - an East v West confrontation over the chessboard which was held at the height of the Cold War (the book 'Bobby Fischer Goes to War' by Edmonds & Eidnow centres around this particular match and is a brilliant read).

Kasparov's an interesting subject, not only being a chess player but an major influence in russian politics as well. I'm currently reading his book - "How Life Imitates Chess", which is a great read.
