Dan Heisman gives a recommended list by rating which is good. Promotes his own stuff a bunch, which is to be expected.

I don't know exactly what is on that list, but I would also recommend for sure 100 Endgames You Musk Know by Jesus de la Villa. I am rated around 1500 right now and it has all the endgames I will need to know for my current rating and probably until I reach above 2000. High-value book at a reasonable price

PolarBear--=my rating on chess.com is not my rating at all. I am a strong player and my record against the 4 GMs I have played is 4 wins and no losses or draws.

My son got on my chess.com, and played some games and thus the very low published rating

 I have a 2500 plus rating elsewhere.

ponz111

Polar I don't even play bullet.

When I was age 16 my record of approximately 9000 games played was approximately 8860 wins

There's no way you're 2188 uscf with only an 1800 bullet rating. You're probably around 1500-1600 uscf. There is no point in lying when we can see what your actual level is.

2500 elsewhere only in your dreams. You're only 1800 bullet here because that's the rating you get when you use your own mind to make the moves.

Aw. Scared that he might be better than you?

I'm 100% that he's a weak player who pretends that he's something more. That's why his 11 year old account here has no games on it. Any legitimate strong player likes to show off their ability because they can attract potential students.

Aww, you're still following me around and begging for my attention eh? It must really really hurt you deep down inside that the game that you love so much and have invested so much time and energy into, is just too complicated for you to be able to understand, even at the rudimentary level, lol.

Well, at least you're not as bad as some Paul guy lol.

I totally took him down with a little help.

Poor little guy. After literally THOUSANDS of games you can't even get over 1000, lmao! That must really hurt!

You talking about me?

My bullet my little brother played and lost a lot of games without me knowing.

And I never play blitz anymore.

Then my brother got onto my rapid and tilted 70 points, luckily I gained back 60 in the past two days.

And I'm not 1000 I'm 1330

No, I'm talking about the only no-life troll who spends all day every day loitering at chess servers yet isn't capable of learning how to play chess. Not the sharpest tool in the drawer, are you?

Lol. Sharper than you at least.

I skillfully took down Paul, I'll have no trouble taking down you. You'll just be the third toxic person I've wasted.

I could gain over 1000 elo easily in about an hour. Just start me with a rating of 1000, and i'll get over 2000 while watching podcasts and talking on the phone. Gaining elo is completely meaningless. What means something is having a rating that isn't an embarassment...especially for someone like you who has nothing else in your life other than chess.

Ok, that's enough free babysitting. Go beg for attention somewhere else. It's too bad the block feature doesn't actually work at this site.

Yeah. I'm wasting all my life at chess. No eating, no sleeping, just getting patzer rating.

My rating's on the rise. If it's weak, it's fine.

People like you have many tactics to making people feel inferior.

1: Acting as if you've already won. Well, two can play this game buddy.

2: Targeting weak spots. Lol my rating is weak, I don't really care.

You call me toxic yet you're the lonely little troll who keeps following me around and begging me to talk to you. I blocked you and repeatedly keep telling you that I have no interest in you, yet you keep trying to get me to interact with you non stop. You're completely obsessed.

Anyway, keep talking to yourself and pretending to "take down" people in your own little mind. I won't be reading any more of your posts. Just as you aren't capable of learning how to play chess,  you aren't capable of intelligent discussion. You're lacking the main ingredient! Hopefully they create a real block feature soon.

Have fun talking to yourself and begging random men for attention.

Lol, still thinking you have me psyched? And I'm not even following you around, I just like taking down cyberbullies. Anyway, your points are pretty worthless. Calling me a "troll," saying I'm "obsessed," nay. I'm just trying to do this thread a favor.

"Have fun talking to yourself," you say. And yet, the odds are great you respond to this. Because you know if you don't, I'll have the last word and therefore win.

Come on PolarBear, I'm showing no weakness, and I'm exploiting yours all over the place, you trying to cover up by attacking me with meaningless statements.

Have fun arguing with air. I've seen through you.

Your scale seems way off. You're giving way too much credit to weak beginners. You can easily get over 1800 without knowing much at all about chess and just having somewhat decent tactics. At this level games go back and forth various times during the game and the player with the better tactics will win most of the time. Also your time frame is ridiculous. Not everyone is the same. For me, talking OTB classical here, I my first rating was in the 1600's, then I got into the 1800's in about 6 months, then expert (2000+) about a year after that, and I'm certainly no prodigy. These online ratings aren't necessarily accurate either. You should play OTB if you want to get a rating that you can take a bit more seriously.

Tf is up with your status, old boy?

You should stop trying to leech value off of places and people, and stand on your own two clownshoes feet.

Inactive on the weekend (which I personally told a few people I would be doing weeks ago, and have indicated on my profile), and on Monday some random goof pops up bumping stuff.

In a topic on Monday just above this, some guys claimed with evidence that you've been at 1800 over the board for a long time. Yet here you are saying quite the opposite, spreading misinformation to the beginner and lower-intermediate players.

There were some other claims that I'm really not sure whether to consider extremely sad or hilarious. You seem quite unpopular. Proof was given for all assertions made.

Imagine lying about a board game.

I think new players should do their own thing which fits their own lifestyle.

"old boy"? LMAO, you would literally fall over if I sneezed in front of you, little runt. I'm sorry you're frustrated about the fact that your all time high rating is only in the 1400's. When I said that it's easy to get over 1800...I was referring to someone of at least average intelligence. Based on your inability to learn how to play chess, and your mindless comments, it's clear that does not include you.

Keep hiding behind a fake name and a fake picture while you mouth off from behind a screen. That's your style! You prefer to be completely anonymous and would tremble in fear at the prospect of standing behind your own words.

I've been a strong expert in OTB classical for many years. It's easy enough to look up, as, unlike you, I don't hide in fear behind a fake name. I'm 2167 OTB, 2200+ online blitz, 2400+ online bullet. These are all ratings a weak 1400 rated kid like you could only have wet dreams about. You can't even get to 1800 which, as I said, is extremely easy and only requires a basic knowledge of tactics and nothing more.

The most hilarious part is how you keep trying to give advice to others as to how to improve in chess, yet you yourself aren't capable of progressing beyond the level of extremely weak beginner. It's literally like a homeless guy who sleeps in trash cans trying to give financial advice. It's some of the best unintential comedy around!

Comedy gold.

"Paul Stanton".

Isn't it interesting the projection that goes on? I never said anything about a fake name, but this bi-polar fellow literally has had a fake identity because of some fascination he developed with a school boy. Then tries to tell me that I have a fake name.

Not my words. Simply what I read and am replying to.

"Fake picture", I'll just take as a weirdo compliment lol

But 50 year old man this. Where are his family? Where are his friends?

Your playing strength has already been looked up. The profile linked was to FIDE and stated that you've been 1800 since at least 2016.

Regarding him trying to front... mate... plenty of people have mouthed me off direct in my inbox in a quite shocking manner - not been indirect with a passive-aggressive conversational style, where I need to figure out why you are in a mood like a woman. Absolute joke for a middle-aged man. You are well below the general standard, and there is so much funny material on you that it's unreal. Reminds me of a friend I had who was a big insecure oaf that was great laughs. He was actually the runt of the pack, funnily enough. We stuck him in goal during football.

You have a problem with London, I believe? Expand on that. You've got a guy that lives right outside London right here now. What more can a middle-aged man want on a Thursday morning? It's your entire status.

Come on now. 99% win rate.

This is meant to be aimed at players starting out.

Think so.

Can't usually post links. Literally comes up as:

Recommended Books - Dan Heisman

A member on here, Russbell, has a good book list also.

Chesspub is great too.

There was another interesting conversation on here about endgames being quite boring to learn, but not so much when you get on with the materials.

Apparently endgames particularly are a boring subject to learn. So says Seirewan in his book "winning chess endings"... which I ironically found very boring.

I'm around 1200 and 2/3rds through Pandolfini's endgames. Really like it.

PolarBear, while your points are not necessarily incorrect, I don't think that it's a great thing to be going around and discouraging lower-rated players. I do agree that it doesn't take too much knowledge to achieve a rating of 1800, even though I am not there yet, I have improved dramatically with just some good openings to play and a decent knowledge of the middlegame and endgame. Still though, it does take a good amount of work and time, depending on the players. You obviously were able to pick up the game very fast, but some other players have to work a lot harder to recognize the tactical patterns and memorize their endgames than others, and they should be appreciated for their hard work, not slammed by some dude on the internet asking why they are slow to improve.

JackRoach

Lol. We've destroyed him he just doesn't know it yet.

uscf or fide?

IceyXD

imma kms lol im in desperate need of help im SOO  bad

ponz111

Jack Roach I have never played blitz in my life. The rating on chess.com is  bogus as my son played some games on  my account and I did not know it. chess.com would not fix my rating.

Have an old USCF rating of 2188--back in 1973. After I got that rating in 1973 I played 2 more tournaments and won every game--8 in a row.

Have written 3 books on chess.  Also I do have a rating of over 2500 in correspondence chess

my record vs GMs is better than you can imagine.

You actually owe me a big apology.
