Which is the grandmaster you know that has the lowest rating? I know GM Sriram jha 2410 from India. Is he the lowest or is there someone somewhere. Just for educational purposes only not to offend anyone.

Any comments I appreciate!

GM Saptashri Roy from India is rated 2237

Dead ones, obviously ?

Other than that, all GMs must have had ELO 2500+ when they qualified.

Arthur Bisguier passed away in 2017, age 87. In his prime he won the US Junior Championship, US Open, The US Championship, and played on 5 Olympic team. The reason that his rating went to so low was because he continued to play and enjoy tournament chess well into his 80's, long after his strength began to decline. He loved chess and didn't give a damn about his rating

That’s wholesome. A great memorial comment!

Lowest I know is GM Alonso Zapata 2280

BlunderBlaster777

Suba, Mihai

Rating: 1956

Suba is 77. He got his GM title 56 years ago, when he must have been quite strong. He must have remained active as a player long after his strength was gone, instead of retiring and protecting his rating. I guess he just loved to play chess. Back in 1991 he wrote a book called "Dynamic Chess Strategy," that "won the 1991 British Chess Federation Book of the Year Award and was hailed as an instant modern classic."

One thing that all these low-rated GMs have in common is that they have continued to play tournament chess well into old age. Of course, they are much weaker now than when they got their titles 50+ years ago

If I'm reading the FIDE website correctly, both Bellon and Suba got their GM titles in 1978
