In the three or so months I have been on chess.com, I have pretty much doubled my rating from ~700 to ~ 1400. Has anybody else had any luck particularly in this area?

i was at around 900 in blitz about a moth ago but now im back in the 1000's

No I haven't.........

I've raised my rating roughly 300 points in the last five weeks. I've been using a lot of software traing programs, playing people with higher ratings and trying to take my playing more seriously. Honestly, I felt like the Karate Kid with the "wax on, wax off" method of learning. I started to think that all these scattered exercises were taking me nowhere. However, I started to show some improvement. While I am still a weak player, there has been noticable improvement.

honestly any improvement is good, chess is truly a game of the mind. Train your mind to look at everything in more methodical way and you will in no time improve. I hope to one day sit in the 1700+ rating area

I've gone from 1200-1300 player to 1600ish. I've recently dipped a bit but that's because I've had other things on my mind, and been too busy for practice and stuff. I generally find that if I put the effort in to do tactics every night, and analyse a master game every night, with a little opening study (say a couple of hours every week), I really improve quite rapidly..

It also helps when I'm playing a lot of games, at the moment I'm waiting for the next stage in 2 tournaments, so there aren't many correspondence games, and I'm busy at home so I don't play much live online chess at the moment either. Since my chess club only meets once a week, I'm missing out a little I think, at the moment..

ive went from around 800 to 1100!

I went from 900 to 1600 range in 15 monthes....

I've played for one or two monthes with higher rates than mine ...loosing ..loosing and loosing.. with a player (1880 rate) I've lost 18 games...with another (1800) I've played for 14 monthes  allways loosing.......

(I've discovered that even if I loose ...Now I can give a good performance to my high rate players...not bad!!!)

I was really thinking to quit...but when I went back playing with rates near mine...I discovered that I've learned something more.....that was really unexpected!!!!!.

Now my aim is to increase the average rate of my players...from 1340 to 1500 or more...

in about one month i can get about 200 points

in 2 months i went down 200 unlucky me

When I started here on chess .com, i've got 1200, and now after 8 games i have 1906. 7 wins and one draw. Before i played chess only against my friends at home.

Yeah, I wonder if there actually is a point at which I would be satisfied. When I was in the 1400-1500 range, I felt that if I could reach 1700-1800 that would be pretty sweet. But now I'm there and I still don't feel like I'm playing the game correctly, if you know what I mean. I'm better, sure, but I still make numerous mistakes in every game (and fail to capitalize on the obvious blunders of opponents). I now feel like the promised land is about 2000-if I could reach that I would feel like a "good" chess player. But I bet that even after crossing that point (and I will), I'll feel pretty mediocre.

Yeah, 2000 isn't really anything special either. I'd say when someone gets to at least 2400 on this site then they're probably playing some reasonably strong chess.

 2400 is already an International Master (IM), and 2500 is Grandmaster (GM). 2000 could be special for a Club player in a tournament, because, psychologically and realistically, i find it easier to play an untitled player than an Internationally Rated Player (2000).

Yeah I guess 2400 sounds pretty good. That's master level play in real ratings. But then again, chess.com ratings must be pretty inflated. What do you think the difference between official ratings and chess.com ratings are?

Probably chess.com ratings are about 300-600 points inflated.
