No, no, no and finally NO!!! The fight is over the board, not on the chat box. Try playing poker.
To tease or not to tease?
Do you tease your opponents during the game, comment on their moves, laugh at their mistakes, lecture on certain situations. All in all, do you use psychological warfare, think it's ethical? To what extent?
If they make a good move, I compliment them on it (http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/is-this-a-good-move).
If they a make a bad move, I complement them on the audacity of it.
I never laugh at my opponent. That's just stupid. Like nqi said, the fight is on the board. And furthermore, if I won a game of chess by aganizing, taunting and laughing at my opponent to get him out of his concentration, then I am a bigger loser than he is.
I thought that good/funny teasing banter, (no insults at all) was a good thing once you have played the same person a few times, but I was wrong. One of my favourite oponents and I who have shared much banter with took great umbridge when he'd joked at my third mistake taking yet another piece, he'd said 'hey yet another gift'. I replied, it's only cause I like's ya' He took umbridge and came back saying 'are you trying to p*** me off or something' I apologised and resigned, I don't know why he got cross, or what he thought I was doing but I was very sad about it. No more friendly banter for me...... I just don't understand people......
I leave the conversation in the small talk category during the game. But anyone wanting to review the completed game is more than welcome to hear my comments about what I was thinking about individual moves, strategy or tactics.
Funny teasing or having a mutual laugh over the moves or game is fine... insults are not fine. Never see insults in online games, but have seen it in live when I have beaten a few players.....players that are polite during the game and when I win say something like "I hate you!". lol Pretty funny really.
But deliberate taunting to throw them off the game is not ethical unless both parties are willingly participating in the chat war banter. I do it for a joke with some players but they know me and that I am only play fighting....
If you've ever seen a board position when she is playing, you'll understand why is she is known as "kebabs".
