What player are YOU most like?

Sort:
Spiffe

What famous player do you think YOUR play most resembles?  Whose games do you play through and feel like they make the most sense, like those are the same decisions you would have made?  Of course, none of us are on the level of these guys, so let's forget the huge differences in skill level -- let's not be modest.

Personally, I get that sense most from Capablanca and Fischer games -- aggressive, but sound and cohesive.  No one else quite "clicks" the same way with me.  Kasparov reminds me of Alekhine -- fantastic, but on a totally different wavelength.  I'd love to be a Marshall or Tal, but I'm not.  I appreciate Petrosian & Karpov, but that's not my style.

Who is your stylistic counterpart?

I want to be like Tal but in reality I am like Korchnoi.

Kentering

I like Anish Giri. A 14 year old Russian/Nepalese young boy who plays in the Bundesliga in Germany and in the Meesterklasse in The Netherlands. His Endgame is fabulous.....

I wish I could say there's some famous chess player that I could say I play most like. For instance playing like Bobby Fishcer would be outstanding. But there's someone on the sight whose calls himself, or herself, Booby Fishcher. I think their chess playing is probably closer to mine.

ErrantDeeds

I've always liked Micheal Adams. No tactical fireworks that I would never understand, but (apparently) simple chess where an advantage is smoothly turned into a victory. I like to play in this way, grinding it out if I can. It seldom works, but it's good to have an identity.

I would like to say Kasparov, but my play is probably closer to Letterman.

That's an interesting comparison, I'm not very familiar with Korchnoi.  How would you describe his style?

I find that I resemble Botvinnik probably the most.  I am a very counterattacking player and like slow and solid positions.  I am not like him when it comes to endgame technique.  I need work on that.

That's a cool game, I've never seen it before.  To his credit, Letterman avoided some naunces/blunders.

As for my play, I'd have to say that often enough I play a la Ostap Bender...

CapablancaAvenged

Mikhail Botvinnik or Josh Waitzkin

If I'm not correct, Botvinnik was more of a positional wizard, and Waitzkin prides himself for flawless endgames. In USCF rated games, I rarely win from a masterful attack, but rather from methodical play that leads to a winning endgame.

Thus why I love the Spanish Exchange so much.
