The most important thing to note is that there is no objective way to measure intelligence. Your intelligence is always relative, especially considering that you can "learn to learn" (that's not a quote from anything in particular...why did I use quotes?). I usually see chess players as particularly contemplative people, though it's a chicken-and-the-egg thing as to whether that develops from chess :).
Other than that, the entire world plays chess. With that in mind, there's almost no hope of pinning down an archetype.
I have many friends who aren't very smart at school but are great at Chess. And other friends who are good at school work and suck at Chess and vice versa.
What do you guys think about chess players? Regarding personality, attitude etc.
