Muhammad Ali is the greatest, followed of course if we are discussing chess by Robert James Fischer!

Hmm interesting that you have Blackburne up there, I personally would have substituted Paul Keres.

Definitely Jose Raul Capablanca. The man thought chess was easy, and considering how long he was unbeaten, how great another man on this list thought he was at chess (Lasker), and the strength of his play is why he is my choice. It boggles my mind that one playing chess at that level of play would think it would be simple and easy to play that well....

You also have Tiger Woods, Pete Sampras (maybe Roger Federer some day), Joe DiMaggio, Wilt Chamberlain, Wayne Gretsky, Mark Spitz, Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Jim Brown, Jesse Owens, Jim Thorpe, Jack Nicklaus, Carl Lewis, Hank Aaron, Ty Cobb, Joe Montana, and Secretariat.  Oh, and in chess, Rybka.
