Great idea! The only thing for me is unclear. The initial rule for Ultimate says that your move obligates your opponent to make his own move in the defined part of the main board.

Anyway, I would be really interested to test that game idea.
Imagine a new chess variant called ultimate check tac toe. In the game, there are 9, 9x9 chess boards. It starts in the middle board and the location of every piece move landing goes to that area of the board. A checkmate will result in an X on that board on the larger 3x3 board. This game will be similar to ultimate tic tac toe but with chess.
