Infinite Chess: Official release!
It's honestly probably easier for me to just add custom pieces manually. Unless there's a time when a dozen pieces are requested that would probably be more efficient to make a piece editor
i would suggest doing that in batches of pieces, for regular updates
still i do think that the creation of variants and their naming should be mostly by the community so as to allow creativity
and there would obviously be live and correspondence
another idea:
someone should create such a thing for finite chess variants

Maybe I could add dragon and archbishop before the board editor.
It will be interesting to see what board setups the community comes up with, and if they are popular enough put them in the game as a variant to choose from.
I haven't really thought about correspondence, that would require its own UI to display the various games you have going. Should that thing go on its own page on the site, or on a tab within the app? Either way it would have to redirect you to the app so maybe have it in the app is best?
The versatility of the board editor is going to make finite games possible too with the use of voids
Maybe in the app if you have a correspondence game where its your turn I could make the play button have like neon background color to signify, and subsequently the online play button, then maybe below the UI to create and join other invites would be "YOUR GAMES" and you'd scroll to see them?
or you could give notifications for the correspondence?
also, it should be there in the website as a different page, and in the app it would be something idk
but there is the problem of having too much scrolling in the app maybe
Can I get peoples opinion on the new pointers to pieces off-screen? Is it too distracting? As soon as a piece moves off screen 3 pointers spawn each, its only hectic right around spawn. Or maybe you think it's good?
hopefully you are not locating bishops by straight lines and rooks by diagonals
because that is useless
i dont get why we need 3 pointers for each piece
i mean, if it is to show the attacks of the pieces then its only useful for long range pieces that move both horizontally and diagonally
and kinda useless for short rangers unless they are seriously close
oh wait is it to show distance?
if so again that mostly isnt useful except for really close pieces, those with multiple modes of attack, and maybe range limited pieces
so maybe there can be options:
disable or enable, for short rangers, medium rangers, long rangers, jumpers, combined pieces etc
and distance could be shown by opacity? maybe?

The idea's not so much distance but bringing rank/file/diagonal awareness (although opacity to represent distance is a great idea!)
Something beneficial to having 3 for every piece is when you are moving a long-range piece far, it helps you target the piece you're aiming at, and something I didn't have for the previous program. Though drawback is too many.
Having different modes is an idea I like. Im thinking the current one, or show-all, and one that just shows attackers.
oh right
there is a slight problem
who is going to drag a piece into the vast abyss of the infinite
in english, it is kinda hard to drag a piece 100s of squares, because either the squares are too small or you need the diagram to move with the piece, and accidentally losing hold of your mouse would be deadly if youre trying to capture
so either click with a way to navigate far away, or type movingÂ
edit: by "only show attackers" do you mean "only show pieces that attack from there to here"?
Â
The way I have it currently is zero dragging. Click to select, click to move. Just gotta be careful to not click the wrong square.
edit: You can click drag the board while you have selected a piece and, so long as you didnt grab a legal square to move to, the board will drag.
Yes, I do mean "only show pieces that attack from there to here"
