All pieces move like themselves and can move like kings

How about a chess variant where all pieces including pawns can move like themselves but can also move like a king but cannot be checkmated. It seems rather logical, as in real life any kind of soldier can walk a little way in any direction and knife someone in any direction.

That sounds quite complicated. At least it could lead to complicated positions, doubles bishops for example. I would like to play a test game. I hardly have any correspondence games going and have been looking for something new.
