Uncomfortable positions

Anyone had a position so uncomfortable you've become reluctant to move? I just started a game, it's on my 2nd move as black but I cringe every time I look at it :P I'll be sure to post it when it's done but urrrggg I can't help but to think how ugly it is.

What was the opening? you're allowed to post openings you just can't receive help.

And yes I have those all the time. But those are the times when you really have to focus on making the right move. Other times the right move is a natural progression. In those tight moments it's when you make a plan that forms that natural progression of moves to come.

Erm, sorry, I meant to mention Chess 960 somewhere in my post. Regular chess is fine because I know the openings I play, although I frequently run across uncomfortable positions against stronger playes of course. Chess 960... Is a different story.

Aha, gotcha.  Just now noticed it's in the "Chess 960" forum (never mind)... :)

I assumed that he meant chess960. I don't think anyone becomes unsure that early in the opening...

In 960 its good to follow the a system of which pieces will be difficult to deploy. Start with a center pawn that is supported by a rook or queen then use a Knight to support that pawn next move. 3rd move I tend to focus on an awkwardly located pieces

Ah, but it's a bit more tricky when you have an unprotected pawn which can be targeted in the first move, especially if that pawn being taken results in your rook getting trapped and the only ways to block it are uncomfortable especially considering you have to push your pawns on the other side of the board to free your pieces leaving your King in a questionable position....

But obviously this is very specific XD I just wanted to see if anyone else had any funny starting positions.... Right now I'm just using symmetry and hoping my opponent leaves an opening, although he seems pretty good.

Pretty much it's when the computer picks a random position for your powerful pieces to start in. The only rules are that your bishops need opposite colors and you have a rook on either side of the king. These restrictions allow for 960 possible scenerios thus the name chess960.

Another fun thing to do is just copycat your opponent for a couple moves unless there is another obvious concept.

DeathScepter

When all else fails, I just aim for moves that create maximum carnage. It may not be winning for me in the end of the melee, but at least I was entertained.

Can you play chess 960 on this site?

Yes in correspondence chess

Just make sure to remember your opponent tactics. Try to deploy a knight first. Avoid moving pieces more than once in the opening. Deploy bishops second. Castle and connect rooks... etc. Of course there are exceptions but this is a good set of rules to follow.

Try to move a center pawn first, or maybe the c or f pawns depending on where your bishops are, and if your opponent makes no attempt to grab the center take control of it and develop your pieces around it

Uncomfortable positions? i had twice my queen start in the corner (i know its the same for my opponent, but it drives me nuts)
