Club Landing Page suggestion

I really like the idea of a club landing page. However, there's one aspect of the functionality of the landing page that I really don't like, and I think should be addressed.

Currently, if you log into your chess.com account through the landing-page link, you will automatically:

  1. be added/request to be added to the members list, and
  2. taken to the club's page.

This makes sense. However, what doesn't make sense is that if you're already logged into your account in your browser before going to the landing page, these will automatically happen, as well. Member's can't check out your landing page, and decide whether or not to sign up for the club. If they go to the landing page -- boom, they're signed up, and they haven't even seen your landing page.

My thought was that if you're already signed in when you visit a landing page, then instead of there being an option to put in your email and password, there's just a join button (mockups below).

What it currently looks like:

What it would look like if you're logged in:

Feedback on this suggestion would be appreciated!

P.S. I'm posting a copy of this over in the Site Feedback forum, as well, since this kind of fits in both categories.

Here is a look at our landing page.. https://www.chess.com/join/the-ideas-room

If I click that, I’ll automatically join or apply 😆

I'm pretty sure it still gives you the option to sign up or not. I just logged out and then clicked the link, it is a two step process.

So basically if you have facebook accounts, tick tick, Instagram etc.. these links can be recruiting gold for your club, since cc is free to sign up and join.

However, our club requires a month old membership to join, so we may have to make a rule change here.

Well, that’s kind of my point. You signed out first. If you are already logged in and you click that link, it doesn’t take you to the landing page.

And this also brings up another interesting point. I have a club that requires a three-month old account to join. But I plan on making exceptions for that rule if people use the landing page. My landing page will have something unique on it, separate from my main club page, so I know who uses the landing page and who doesn’t. But again, if they’re already logged in, they’ll never see it.

If your already a member of the club, and click the link, you will not see the landing page. What's the point? The page is only for non members to see, and to decide if they even want to join the club or not.

If you want to see your landing page, then back to club settings you go to view it in edit mode. Otherwise,  logout to view it in all its glory! wink

I have an approved second account, which is not in my club. If I try to visit the landing page with that account, it automatically submits a club application and I can’t see the landing page. It would be the same for any other person in chess.com who is not in my club, if they are logged in in their browser.
