Is it worth it to pay for chess.com?

I have and use both lichess and chess.com as well as playing OTB quite often. I have never payed for chess.com and when I use lichess I appreciate that it is a non-profit meaning it has no ads and there is no need to pay for anything. Do people that have the premium chess.com and such find that it really gives tools that help improve your own chess or is not paying for it better since there are so many other online resources for free?

Let me know what you guys think.

I have premium and I like it because of the unlimited tactics and lessons. And I prefer chess.com's UX to lichess's. But is it *worth* it just for a preference? I'm not sure. You could try a less expensive plan for a few months and see. I'd be curious to know what you think.

I really like having the unlimited reviews and coach explanations. For the most part I review every game, especially when learning openings. The coach explanations which are available at the Diamond level are helpful to see what moves would have been better and why. When I lose on time the reviews give me a sense of how I was doing. You could pay a month at a time during periods you have more time for chess (e.g. during school breaks) so you're not paying for times you're not using it. I notice you don't use the system to review your games so maybe this isn't a feature you would find useful wink

I’d say get a free trial or buy just a month of whatever you’re considering buying and see for yourself if it’s worth it

personally i dont think anything past gold is worth anything.

If you go for a year plan diamond, it's like 5.50£ a month. I spend more money daily on my lunch... Who cares? If you play one two games a week for fun and don't care about any improvement, then you'd waste your money on premium, but if you spend a lot of time here and want to improve, why wouldn't you invest some change

No way. chess.com is a money grabbing thief. don't give them your precious cents.

I don't think it's necessarily worth it, but it depends on your opinion. From a perspective based purely on improving, paying for a subscription probably isn't worth it. I've managed to get into the 98th percentile just by using the free resources here.

If you're serious about improving your chess and want access to structured learning materials, detailed game analysis and a large variety of training tools, a chess.com premium membership might be worth the investment.

No, not worth it especially if you are going to spend the time mostly on something else.

Gold and platinum are a waste of money.. Just go all in for the diamond!

Easy to say with your parents paying for your membership. Diamond is a complete waste, just buy gold for tactics

Is it worth paying another $40 for streaming to watch English Premier League this season?

All depends how important it is to you.

I need game review and insights tho

I think gold is most worth it. I use all of golds features, and platinum is just gold but with game review, and I'm fine with that, game review is nice, but it's too much more to just add game review and have that big of a price difference. I don't think diamond is worth it, I find insights and coach explanations to basically be useless.

As of right now, it’s probably not worth it, but in a few years, once all the other websites that do premium things for free close down, I’d consider plat, as game review is helpful, but that’s it
