I am rooting for Caruana, but I also like Firouzja
Julius Bär Women's Speed Chess Championship 2024: Official Discussion Thread
Welp, Firouzja won & also Hans. They're both in the final 4. At first I didn't think Hans was a better speed player than Wesley but he is as of right now. The Magster plays today (in 30 minutes) against Erigaisi & will win unless he deliberately loses just because he has to play Hans next. He didn't want to play him 3 separate times in the world team blitz event that just finished a few days ago. The drama continues.......
Magnus won. Is the final 4 in Paris live over the board?
The finals are played live on PCs, esports style.
Naka said he'd be appreciative of people rooting and cheering like they do in esports competitions, instead of just having the usual silent chess audience. Players might be given noise-cancelling headphones for that purpose, however this wasn't confirmed.
I personally agree that it would be amazing to witness the commentators and crowd go crazy when blunders and brilliancies happen during the games.
the eval bar needs to be eliminated period
We had a survey about this specific factor and the majority of votes were for keeping the evaluation bar during broadcasts.
Screaming fans would be awesome & so funny. I don't think there are headphones that can cancel out the kind of noise a crowd could create. There needs to be commentators like the UFC cage matches have. I can hear it now: "Woooo... The Magster just hammered him with that bishop up side his noggin!!" & "Oh man! Look at Naka squirm after that pawn gets crammed right into his kings position!". "D5, BAM! Ain't no commin back from that one!"
The players will be looking at everybody like 'can't y'all just shut da fugg up?'. It would be great.
A point of contention: inviting Valentina Gunina while the other 10 higher rated players are missing (Alessandra Goryachkina, Bibisara Assaubayeva, Jiner Zhu, Mary Sebag, Koneru Humpy, etc.) seems subjective. Did politics have a hand in determining the invitees?

Are u referring to this event? https://www.chess.com/events/info/2024-julius-baer-womens-speed-chess-championship
If so, a lot of those players are higher rated than Valentina. The 16 player bracket matches haven't started yet, they're still qualifying the remaining 6 players.
Big congrats to WIM Alua Nurman for winning the first WSCC Play-In!
Next event starts August 14 at 9am PT / 15:00 CEST.

Caruana will be victorious imo because there are too many games and I think Firouzja won't have the fighting spirit against a player as efficient as Caruana.
