The Chess Community Needs YOU!

Chess.com is currently looking for new, engaging and enthusiastic volunteer moderators to help inspire the community by sustaining a positive environment while keeping Chess.com a safe, welcoming and enjoyable site. If you're interested in this, please keep reading!

What is the job of a Chess.com moderator?

A Chess.com moderator will be expected to:

  1. Display exceptional conduct at all times, representing the site.
  2. De-escalate any situations which may result in any untoward eventualities.
  3. Keep a level head at all times.
  4. Avoid being biased/predisposed toward or against any race/religion/sex/gender/etc.
  5. Maintain a healthy atmosphere in, but not limited to, Live Chess games, Public Forums, High Profile Clubs, ChessTV and News/Blog post comment threads.
  6. Be helpful, showing care and consideration to our wonderful community.

Am I the right person for this position?

If you find yourself regularly helping out around the site, and consider yourself in good standing with peers/other users and/or Chess.com itself, you could be the person we're looking for! For best results, we ask that you have a respected account which is over a year old. All applicants must be aged 18 or over for consideration.

How do I apply?

To apply, please fill out the Google Form at https://forms.gle/Yz87i65z6XyDyNoM9

The more detailed and clear your answers are, the better we'll be able to judge whether you're the right person for this position. Don't skip any questions, or leave any half-hearted answers!

Are there any time commitments I'd need to make?

No. We ask that all moderators do an amount of work which they're comfortable with.

I'm under the age of 18, but would like to help. What can I do?

Keep engaging positively with the community! We appreciate every bit of wholesomeness and community spirit within, and beyond Chess.com

Hola. Hoy en mis dos últimas partidas perdí "por abandono" sin haber abandonado. La primera vez pensé 'apreté mal', luego en la partida siguiente corroboré que no era error mío.  Ojalá no sea un virus o algo así.  Saludos

How much is the salary.

7. Have basic reading comprehension skills.

I believe the context of volunteer here is that you do not get paid.

8. Have basic understanding how the internet works.

Waving claws at the screen only hurts the screen.

Can I be a mod???   That would be awesome!  I have some scores to settle, so I really think this would be a great opportunity for me. Old Spooky would be the new Sheriff in town. Let's put it to a vote.   🙂

I think requirement no 3 may be a big one.

My conduct is definitely exceptional but probably not what you're looking for.  Also since my head was transplanted with a South Indian rice cake, I have become somewhat softer. But do let me know when you need my dictatorial services.

Whether there is membership or not, I don't care, I just want to be part of the site moderator, contributing in the best way that I can.

Tried several times but wasn't picked, maybe I will be lucky this time.

Considering how much I'm involved and active with the chess.com community already; I'd be happy to help chess.com by being a mod if they judge me a good fit for the position and if I deem the position a good fit for me happy.png

I'll check out the application happy.png
