Went from 2300 to 2200 in blitz after not playing for a while, considering to quit chess

I recently was on a streak and became 2300, and stayed on that rating for some time. Now after not playing for some time I went back down to 2200. I'm playing like I'm literally 1700 and getting completely outplayed by 2200s and 2300s. I even disconnected on my last game in the opening. I'm 0.5/7 in my last few games. Should I quit chess forever?

100 point swing is nothing, and you said yourself you were ‘on a streak’ to get to 2300 so maybe you’re not quite ready to stabilise your rating there, but you’re clearly still improving so just accept these things as an inevitable part of the process.

It’s definitely nothing to worry about so don’t stress over it…

I was actually on a huge tilt in blitz then I stopped playing and played rapid for sometime and then I again came back to blitz, this helped me a lot in recovering my rating. so maybe this will work for you too. But do not stress out if you are stressed then you will lose more elo and pls don't quit chess just cause of a 100 point loss

stick with it thru the tough comeback and befor you know it you will be better than befor , Its a bit like returning to running after an injury

Interesting! For those interested in certifications or advancing their skills, I highly recommend checking out Edusum.com. They offer great resources and practice tests for various IT certifications that can help you stay up-to-date in the fast-evolving tech world.

I understand the frustration! Taking a break and coming back to see your rating drop is rough, but it’s also part of the learning curve. Sometimes, a short break can actually help you process new strategies and refine skills. Instead of focusing solely on ratings, maybe try setting small, achievable goals to rebuild confidence gradually.

By the way, if you’re interested in sharpening your skills in other areas, Edusum.com offers helpful resources for certifications and skill-building in IT and cybersecurity. It’s a great way to stay mentally active and balanced while improving in different fields. Keep pushing forward – you’ve already achieved so much!

I don't mean to be rude but, I played my friend who was at 436 at the time, He resigned because he had to go (I would have beat him anyway I had all of his pieces and his king is checked) he dropped over 200, he ended up lower than me, and I was 204 at the end of the match, so at least you didn't fall like he did.

Progress doesn't happen in a continous straight line. There are always ups and downs.

You should analyze those games you lost, as they contain evidence of the parts of your play that you need to work on.

They are essentially telling you how to become stronger. Be grateful for the lessons they have to offer ...

Are you serious. It's all in your head. I've never seen elo that high on Chess.Com

chessdeficit99

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll keep pushing and improving my game

Now on my old site Instantchess.com I was a 1800. Here I'm not even close. But I still feel like I'm good enough. Here lately The review engine has rated me at 87% Accuracy estimated ELO at 2000. So go figure. I wouldn't let elo get me down. I'm not so sure how accurate the rating system really is.
