Why am I getting worser at chess?
I am a very good chess player. today I beat my friend who was 588 or smth we played 5 rounds. I won 4 and he had to go so we drawed by agreement. so yeah. But from my Elo. you may think I am very bad at chess. this is only because I get strong opponents. Is this unfair? yes, a bit. but I always play more games. and I regain my lost elo. But I know I am good. You should too. If you really think you are not good. learn. do not quit
You're a very good chess player because you beat a 588?
I can't stop laughing!
I give the guy props... shows he honest...
How many here play with a VPN and an opening's data base tabbed up? Or got a old version of Crafty 2.1 from the 1990s running set to something stupid.... (as in to play really defensive) then open the game with 1.d3 or 1. h3 I'm willing to bet that any A.I. bot Chess.com is using doesn't have the ability to detect that kind of silicone snorting.... The moves are not going to be anywhere near the strength level of engines now and hence probably will not show up as a computer moves... besides the slick ones are only going to look at it /use crafty 2.1 at a certain point in the game when they are getting out played.
I see a lot of 2000+ elo players here.. Sometimes, I get wondering if they actually have a OTB rating... if not, IMO that screams ???? because I don't believe real 2000+ players got to be 2k plus just playing legit on the internet!
How many times do we see people out themselves by posting "I'm 2000 elo here, I played my first OTB tournament and got beat by a Class D 1000 player. I never seen an 1800 elo player OTB loose to a class D player let alone a 2000...
I give the guy props.... His play is honest...
just my 2 cents

who's play is honest. mine or thrillerfan
who's play is honest. mine or thrillerfan
Both...
A simple search of Thillerfan's various posts will tell you he been playing at a high level for many years, he just doesn't suffer foolish nonsense as well as others here.. (sometimes I'm in his camp... especially with all the " I created a new opening posts"
And you.... your rating of 400 says your play is legit. That said.... Even though you think you are a good chess player, your elo of 400 says, you are at the beginning of your chess skills. Chess is a great hobby, it can be a worth while endeavor. It can be a passion, Chess can turn into a sport real fast, when you start to play in OTB tournaments.. or even better playing in OTB team tournaments.
I have played Chess all my life. As a freshman in high school I got my first varsity letter playing Chess (my high school was the first to win state 3 years in a row) as an adult I've played in many tournaments and have had a lot fun, and met some very cool people. Just don't get frustrated... to some it comes natural, to most it does not.
same thing, and Chess.com somehow "rewarded" me for my awfulness. if someone can please make sense of this i'd love to get comments/an explanation.
as far as i know, i only do Rapid (always 10 minutes +0) and puzzles. i always play i don't even know what bullet means.
my puzzle rating is 1722, and my rapid rating is a miserable 959. all time since about 2020 i've played 4,600 games. my highest rank ever was an unimpressive 1277 back in October 2023. so since then, i've lost over 300 elo or whatever. and just today, i got into the "Legends League". this happened 10 minutes ago and i'm trying to figure out what that even means.
i guess my questions are:
1) do i just play harder opponents now? have i been playing harder opponents and that's why my rating dropped, or am i legit just getting worse.
2) how do i break the habit of trying to sneak in chess games when i'm totally rushed, and don't even have 20 minutes to play the full game if it becomes a grind (smoke breaks usually, etc). this certainly hasn't helped. who is addicted and manages not to try sneaking in a game, and HOW?
Relax, losing simply 50 points is not a true reflection of your skill, everyone is different.
We are all human, mistakes happen, but it's about how you deal with what happens when you make them. Mindset is everything.
