Would you be willing to take an IQ test, to show me what cognitive profile you need for chess?

yeah. it was like 13 minute when I saw one of his posts. but you made this forum more than 24 hours ago, right?

Dr-Autist-Octavius

It says "1 day ago," but I can't tell if it was a full 24 hours yet.

EnCrossiantIsBrilliant

ok

Dr-Autist-Octavius

Nope, hold on, I checked my history and I definitely made this account a solid 24+ hours ago. Made this thread a solid 24+ hours ago.

Unfortunately the Support bot is useless. I'd like to talk to a human.

Dr-Autist-Octavius

Tried a different browser too, but nope. What is going on?

Guess you gotta be "chess smart" to figure out how to use this forum.

From left to right, my menu has the following...

  1. Insert chess game
  2. Bold
  3. Italic
  4. Text color
  5. Font sizes (it has an unusually large margin)
  6. Bullet list
  7. Numbered list
  8. Horizontal line

I do appreciate your efforts to help me though, AMagirlcom. I'm gonna make a post over on Help & Support.

When I have not played chess yet year 2009 my IQ scores hover around average IQ 95-99. Year 2022, I already had so much chess, I took the same tests again, I did not struggle thinking anymore my score hovers around 115-120 above average or semi bright. I can really say chess helps higher IQ. Else, maybe aging or information will make you faster and wiser. I wonder what will be in my scores now. I haven't solved chess tactics and haven't read chess books for more than a year now. I just play casually. If my chess.com rating goes down to 1900 ok I will train chess again.

Would you be willing to try the Open Source Psychometrics test?

SeanTheSheep021

Yes.

You would? That's awesome. After taking the test, message me with your results.

I think this is the wrong approach to chess. If you enjoy it, play it. Wanting to know what IQ is necessary before investing time in it is rather like reading up on the physical mechanics of lovemaking before taking steps to start a relationship. It's something that is far better learnt through experience than academic study. A semblance of IQ is one factor, just as a small frame is helpful for a jockey and height to a basketball player: but chess personalities beyond IQ – and hence abilities – are as varied as human personalities generally. My (subjective) view is that the most important ability for good chess playing is pattern recognition – you look at a position and know where it's come from, and where it might be going – and pattern recognition is merely one facet of IQ.

I feel like pattern recognition and/or memory is strong among chess players.

And I agree, if you enjoy chess you should play it. But if you enjoy chess, you probably have a high capacity for memory and pattern recognition.

apparently an update was bugged, but it was pulled, so you can probably post if you do it soon

Unfortunately I still lack the power.

What baffles me is that I-Will-Have-My-Justice was newer than me, but he was able to post pictures while I couldn't.

Dr-Autist-Octavius

I played 3 games with BenjaminTD6 and I'm still not able to post images or quote properly.

Maybe it has to be 6.

EDIT: If anyone likes to play, I only wanna play unranked.

Chess is not related to IQ. It's been proven many times before.

Has it, though?

People point out that Hikaru scored close to average on that Mensa test. But what they might be neglecting is that the Mensa test doesn't really test memory. And if there's a kind of puzzle Hikaru is good at, it's memory puzzles. Memory is a kind of IQ.

Dr-Autist-Octavius

Speaking of the leaderboard, I know the Hikarus and Magnuses of the community are busy, but I would like to see them try this test.

Or see the results of what tests they have tried.
