Great! Though I probably won't get 2 same squared same colored bishops in a game within the next 10,000,000 years - and then I'll probably overlook the simple 584 move solution!
8 Piece Endgame Tablebase Progress - 584 Move Mate discovered!
Did the solution ignore the 50 move rule?
This is a chess composition. There is no 50-move rule for chess compositions - except for retrograde problems!
What's the difference with retrograde analysis problems?
There is a 50-move rule! And quite some compositions were made where that matters! For instance I've seen one where white wins by tablebase on the 50 move line if black cannot castle while black can salvage a draw after castling. In positions where black has only K+R on the board with white starting, black provably lost castling right (what was his last move?).
