Sort:

I know how! I think.. But I have never ever got the position K B N vs K before in otb chess or internet chess! And I have played chess in five years! Have you needed to know how to checkmate with bishop and knight in a chess game?

Well, since I never had a game where I needed to checkmate with K+B+N and was also advised that I don't really need to learn it until I was higher rated, so no, I neither have the knowledge to do so nor have I ever gotten the chance to give it a try. But I would really like to know when I should learn how to do it, or rather at what rating?

I tried to get myself to sit down and work it out one day and I got it down. If it ever came up in a real game, I think I would probably be able to do it.

Those are pretty Scottrf.

I love the first one, the calvary poised on the 8th rank to come to the defense of their Monarch should one of hteir bretheren fall in combat .....

It is important to remember that, if the bishop is opposite colour to the knight, then checkmate is not possible.

If you only have one of them?

Wait, what?

dpnorman

He's joking. He means that if you're playing white and you have a bishop, if the knight on the board is black, it's a draw.

bean_Fischer

I am not kidding. But I don't know K+B+N vs K or K+Q vs K+R endgame. I take the draw. But of all my games around 6000 of them (Blitz + Online), I had only 1 game K+Q vs K+R  and I took the draw.

Scottrf

K&Q vs K&R is a lot harder.

I even find K&Q vs K&N harder.

I know how to. The only time I have ever done it in a game was when I purposely saced my pieces(I still kept some pawns though) so I only has a bishop, knight and king.

I once checkmated my opponent with a K+B+N when there were other pieces on the board.  It's not the same as K+B+N vs K.  However, if I hadn't known the technique, I would have missed the mate.

I would suggest learning the technique for two reasons:

1.  It's fun to try it (I practice against the computer from random starting positions), and

2.  You will learn a lot about maneuvering the knight.

GAME SIMULATION :
MAKE A CHECKMATE POSITION BY BISHOP AND KNIGHT

Note:
By the time you find the end of the formation game is King (K) vs. King (K)-Knight (N)-Bishop (B) and you want to make a checkmate position, you must sleigh the opponent's king to one corner of the board are colored the same color as the bishop you are. Good Luck !

Yet another one: I know how. I learnt it on computer. I never needed it in actual game.
