Ah, so the bishop caused the stalemate? If I didn't have the bishop, and the king could move along the F file, and then I swung in the third queen to mate...this would have worked?

Thanks.

You should have just made checks till you find a checkmate to avoid stalemate

Yes, I'd personally rather play the bots all the way up the ladder, all while taking lessons and puzzles. I'd like to practice and get decent before jumping online and playing against human foes. I personally find it relaxing and fun while I learn.

Thank you all for some great feedback and advice.

Hi,

Common mistake when promoting a lot in the endgame you accidentally trap the king into a stalemate. As mentioned already, make sure each move is a check, or even better, make sure your opponent always has at least one legal square to move.

If you’d like help learning how to checkmate with king and queen, king and rook and such, I’d be happy to meet you on Chess.com’s classroom sometime and show you some simple techniques for that, message me if you’re interested and we’ll find a time. Have fun learning chess!

You should do what is most fun for you, but playing bots personally didnt help me  to improve. Their game is not realistic. I can beat 1500 bots I think but I am 800. Eventually you must play humans in order to beat humans.

To make sure you don't stalemate someone, always try to make sure each move you make is a check. Certainly can't be a stalemate if the opponent king is in check

That would have been also be my advice.

Thanks again. Yes, I notice the very 'ai' borked moves that do the stupidest thing, just to move and seem to give me a chance. And I know humans play and think differently, but what playing AI is doing for me, is allowing me to catch all my blunders and really learn when I'm under attack or about to be under attack. Once I mostly stop my blind blunders, I'll jump on and play humans. I'm definitely 'getting better.' Cheers!

It is not good advice. Giving blind checks is not the way to play chess in any position. A good advice would be to always think before you move.

It is not a draw because black can mate like in this party:

Don´t understand your comment. Your game has a totally different type of a draw (by time and insufficient material I think) and the game of the OP IS a draw, because it´s blacks move, but the only remaining piece, the king, can´t move. So it´s stalemate. And your game Firouzja vs. Carlsen is again another thing, because Firouzja accidently toppeled his king over. No mate there. Shall that be a joke? Maybe you could explain your  comment to me and us....

You just have to be careful not to stalemate.

well that's just your divine punishment for being greedy and for that you wanted whole harem instead of just one loyal queen...

Opps! Dude.... You didn't see.... It was going to be a stalemate and you moves your queen..... All The Best for next time :tup :tup

You can never have enough Queens, RAWR. Do not worry about the stalemate, happens to everyone.

Stalemate is a rule. We all know it! So it's not very smart to just carelessly keep queening pawns without even bothering to look out for it. Just pay attention. Instead of mindlessly queening your h-pawn and stalemating your opponent, you had a very simple mate in 2: Qg1+ and Qfh2 mate. Open your eyes and play chess
