Queen and Rook would win because -

  • There is more material.
  • They can trap the King to a corner quickly.
  • While focusing on the attack, they can also defend by capturing the opponent's queen. So, with the help of the queen and rook, White was able to capture the queen, leaving Black with nothing.

On move seven white could just check on f2 and force an exchange of queens and mate with rook and king.

I knew, but I am not that advanced to mate with a rook and king vs king.

Okey sorry. Suggestion if I may. Watch a youtube video explaining it. Set the position on analysis board and play it against the computer until you got it. Takes you 15 minutes to learn and will benefit you trough your chess playing time.

Good God!! Resurrected from 2011 seven days ago.

I suppose the question remains valid. If a Q can win against a Rook (generally the case unless stalemate) then it would seem the likelihood of a victory by a Q with a R v R would be enhanced, other factors remaining constant. I'd rather be the one with the Q & R than without . . .

thegreatchessplayerrzz

This is a win, unless the defender has an immediate forced stalemate or perpetual check, although it can take up to 67 moves.

On other six-man endings with major pieces:

Queen and rook vs Queen and light piece: Normally a draw

Two queens vs queen and rook: Normally a win

Two queens vs queen:almost always a win

thegreatchessplayerrzz

Almost always a win. Being a rook or more up is always sufficient enough to win a pawnless ending(except for two knights vs king)

Nedyarbgodmode

Obviously a queen and rook because they can cooperate unlike that lone queen, black is just lost so often

Nedyarbgodmode

How about a queen and rook vs rook?
