Not as much a trap as it is an attack combo, but I would LOVE to have something like this to happen in any one of my games. I so rarely get to castle offensively.
Thornton castling trap
9.Nxc6! is a great shot, haven't seen that idea like that before. White must have seen it when he played 8.Bg5 too.
thats fantastic lol. until recently tho i never realised castling to put the opponents king in check was allowed tho.
Perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nxc6 is a !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! move (I say it myself!!)?
0-0-0 often checks in pirc defence(1.e4 d6 2.d4)
The following comes from one of my game.
Note:The date is maybe incorrect.I don't think that casting is allowed. I read that squares between king and rook shouldn't be attacked. Black rook is attacking one of the squares. Would like to know if this is really true. Pls help.
I just remembered that squares passed by king shouldn't be under attack for castling. @nordlandia yes I think.
@teja2213 can white castle here?
Yes. There's no problem with moving a Rook through an attacked square... you can't "check" a Rook.
Here's an example:
This is my favourite chess trap
Your puzzle's solution is wrong because it wrongly assumes every capture is met by a recapture if possible. Black plays 1...Bxg1 and thus avoids allowing castling with check.

Very nice possition and shoving the Thornton castling trap, but as a puzze this possition isent realy working.
White is already up a rook and almost every move wins.. if you start with Bxc7, black can awoid loosing further material with the intermezzo Bxg1. So the trap is not working if black finds Bxg1.
Now as i said white is still winning by far, but that is because they was already up material.
