Help, I can’t get my elo above 500

I’m 16 years old and I’ve been playing since august this year. I’ve definitely improved my playing a lot since then. I blunder less often, I try to control the center, and I know some openings and gambits. I don’t know why I’m plateauing here. I’m already planning to read some chess books. Is there anything else I can do to speed up the process? I don’t need to be a grandmaster, I just want to be a half-decent player.
