Lost 100 ELO in 30 Minute Games Past 5 weeks.

I don't know what to do: The more I lose the less confidence I have, the worse I play, the more I lose.  I was doing so well and peaked at 916. Now, i am close to sinking below 800. I play 30 minute time constraints. I review and annotate my games. I do puzzle rush, puzzle survival, Polgar M1, joined the Chess Dojo, Everyone's First Chess Workbook-2 times, watched every content provider and type of YouTube video content maker you can suggest...all of them. I even have a friend on Lichess who helps me after I annotated my games. I am not going to spend more money on coaching. I just don't know what to do. I have taken breaks from chess for a week or so. I have spent time just playing. I have spent time just studying. I just lost half the ELO it took me a year to gain in five weeks. Thats it. Just a rant.

Everyone goes through up and down periods. If you have done all that you said, your rating will fall until you start winning more than you lose and then your confidence will come back.

One big problem is that you aren't playing very much at all. Only 19 games since September 1st. You have played a total of 5,428 games here over the last 6 years and only played 19 in the last two months.

/ Did you read the comments on your last post?

That guy practically wrote you a book on your game and you made no comments.

Mate, I'm sure you're frustrated with what sounds like all the work you have put into improving. If you want we can train together, maybe go through some of your games and talk over some positions might spark whatever may be holding you down right now.

I am very new to the game, but I can still see you are making some mistakes. Like in your recent game against VladyslavHera, instead of 8.Qd5 you could have done something like O-O to better protect your king and prepare for connecting your rooks. Obviously I am not good at the game myself, but I know I have to rectify these mistakes to improve further.

Hi!

It looks like you are working hard. But are you sure you are working in the things that really matter for improvement? Mind hard might not always be efficient use of time if done in not critical subjects.

Good luck!

Hi

I am rated over 2400 online (https://www.chess.com/member/ppandachess). I created a free course that will teach you a training plan to improve. Feel free to check it out: https://www.panda-chess.com/daily-improvement-plan

First, you shouldn’t worry about the rating. It is better to focus on skill level and learning rather than a number.

second, online ratings are very unreliable, especially for rapid, blitz, and bullet. If your actual skill level is 800, you should expect your rating to fluctuate between 700 and 900. A 100-point drop is common.

third, if rating losses are upsetting, you can play unrated games, play bots, or play friends who allow you to take back moves or to restart when you make a mistake.

i looked at your last four losses. You missed a free queen, you gave away a free piece, and you turned a winning ending, a rook ahead, into a loss. So your game needs a lot of work.

here are some suggestions.

1. take more time to look at possible captures before you move. You really shouldn’t hang a knight or miss a free queen.

2. try to develop all your pieces and castle before trying to look for tactics. Of course, you may have to move a piece again if it is attacked.

3. Avoid making meaningless pawn moves. In one game, you moved both of your rook pawns for no good reason, when you had more constructive alternatives.

4. try to get your pieces working together. Your games have sections where you are only making 1-move threats (or reacting to 1-move threats).

5. if your study habits so far have not been working, perhaps you should try an OTB club where you can watch strong players, listen to them discuss their thinking, and ask them to go over some of your games with you.

Good luck.
