Scholar's Mate is bad: it brings the queen into play prematurely and it has to flee with loss of time.

I honestly think that this whole Nc6-g6-Nf6 defense stinks a bit for black. In my opinion, it is better to grab the initiative early:
1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 Nf6 3. Qxe5+ Be7
This is the Kiddie countergambit. Yes, white wins a pawn, but black gets at least 3, probably 4 tempi for it, which is more than enough compensation. Next move black castles, then opens up the middle with a d5 punch. White has to defend precisely to survive the attack, and Nelson will NOT defend precisely.
Playing this way is also more fun. Attacking feels better than defending, and all chess players are better at it.

You can sacrifice the central pawn for some compensation, but objectively it is better to hold on to the central pawn and drive the queen back.
