Expand, please. I'm dying to know all the latest Martin gossip (leans over board, furtively)

Marcyful

Legend has it that back in the 1980's, he used to be a regular family man who indeed had a 4 year old son at the time as stated by his opening line "Здравейте! My 4 year old son just beat me - ouch! ".

One day he was confronted by moderator Martin while playing chess in the park. The mod asked for his name, he said it was Martin, and both of them laughed at the pure coincidence of 2 chess players named Martin meeting each other. They soon began their first chess match and moderator Martin pointed something out. "You don't seem to have that much experience with the game, do you?", said moderator Martin. "Yeah, I only started playing a month ago and everyone beats me like its nothing. Even my 4 year old son", Martin replied. "Mister Martin, I have a proposition for you. How would you like to become world famous at the game of chess? No need for improvements, no need to study the game, and a thousand dollars will be given to you every month?". Martin's eyes widened. The idea of making a living out of chess even without any skills completely captivated his interest. After all, Martin and his family was quite poor. They couldn't even afford their own car. "Can you really do that?", asked Martin. Moderator Martin nodded, telling him to follow him to his van. He was so excited to have his new job only to be knocked out cold and kidnapped to moderator Martin's headquarters.

It was now the early 2010's. Chess.com was still in its early years and recently they have added a new feature "Bots" where players get to play and practice against the AI. Around that time, Martin's boy is already in his 30's working as a local detective. For many years he tried to find his missing father, looking for any leads as to where he may have gone. But after another fruitless search, young Martin Jr. went to his bad exhausted and depressed. During his emotional breakdown, Martin Jr. noticed his chess board across the room. Vivid memories of the chess games with his father suddenly flowed through his head. He thought to himself "Maybe just one chess game could make me feel better". Since no one was around to play, he loaded up his computer and visited the first chess website he came across, chess.com. After making his account he noticed the "Computer" feature. He thought to himself "People can play against computers now?". He went to the computer's section and saw a familiar face. "What the heck... one of the bots looks exactly like dad. It even has his name...". He challenged the bot out of curiosity only to read a line that sent chills down his spine: "Здравейте! My 4 year old son just beat me - ouch! "

(Disclaimer: This is not a real attempt at criminalizing moderator Martin. He's a chill guy IRL, I think so anyways.)

I don't think @Martin_Stahl has disclosed any information about kidnapping Martin, so we might never know.

Wow! That was so worth leaning over the board for, causing all the bots to freeze up. I mightn't know how the game would have ended (me losing), but I obtained all this fabulous hot bot gossip. The ending almost brought a tear to my eye, and that's not easy to achieve, since I've spent so long around unemotional bots, that my heart has turned to Stone, like a low rated player's should. I wonder will we ever find out what happened during Martin's "lost years", when he was kidnapped? Perhaps a rematch, gossip wise, will reveal further sides of Martin's coping tactics. Highly entertaining.happy.png

Who knows? Maybe there are more stories to be told regarding the origins of the chess.com bots. Nelson's in particular is quite interesting.
