Alright I'll try 20 min of puzzles or more a day since I'm very bad and need tons of improvement
Typical rating progression pace?
Completely depends on external factors give us time dedicated to work with / your age / resources etc.
I've been playing here for two years and haven't really made any progress. Just got used to play blitz.
You are at a level where progress slows down a lot, maybe you will need a coach if you want to improve further.

I started playing about three weeks ago and have really only explored the 10 minute rapid games. I have played 1 Dailey to completion and now I am in the middle of 2 more. Wouldn’t use by the analysis board during a game be cheating? What is the point of playing if you are letting the engine select your moves?
Just to be clear I am terrible! I typically 3 games “well” and then then lose a bunch because I am probably too stupid to play chess. I am really hoping my 2 year old daughter picks up the game so I can have someone to beat.
i got 500 day one, TODAY : D Idk if it's good, but i feel proud. Any players who knows what they are doing who would like to inlighten me? <3
I'm going to post my experience in case anyone else is reading this and getting insecure.
I learned how the pieces moved 25 years ago but never learned to really play. I taught my kids the moves and they ended up in chess clubs and even coaching an after school program. I still didn't play.
I started playing in late 2020 and have casually completed some lessons and done a lot of puzzles. My ratings don't reflect it but I've DEFINITELY improved. Instead of measuring my progress by rating, I realize I don't panic in the endgame, I think of chess as fun instead of anxiety-producing, and I now play my partner on standard instead of balanced.
I am not spending a lot of time studying chess; I work, am in school, and need exercise when I'm not on the computer. Maybe one of these days, I'll buckle down but for now, I can still enjoy playing and be in the bottom 1% of players.
Not sure about rating pace but those pesky tactics are getting easier everyone I restart my account 😋
It depends on how good you are at chess. And how good you are depends upon how much time are you willing to put into the study of chess. So, if you are studying chess and then implementing those studies in your play, then you can expect rapid progress in your rating. Otherwise, if you simply keep on playing some games everyday, it won't take you anywhere, instead your rating will get saturated once you reach your current strength.
Same! Dropping in with another update almost exactly 3 years on from when I first posted this topic! Just hit 2100 today!
625 = 3 weeks.
800 = 7 weeks.
1000 = 2.5 months.
1200 = 4 months. (Around the time I posted this very topic 3 years ago!)
1400 = 5 months.
1500 = 8 months.
1600 = 1 year, 1 month.
1700 = 1 year, 6 months.
1800 = 2 years, 1 month.
1900 = 2 years, 6 months.
2000 = 2 years, 9 months.
2100 = 3 years, 4 months.
2200 = ???
The above relate to my blitz progress, I climbed through rapid ratings a little quicker.
I should also say, whenever I hit a new milestone, it was not uncommon for me to swing back down a 100 points or so and fluctuate month on month until improvement and consistency caught up!
Haven't made much progress in blitz, but did manage to break 2200 in Rapid yesterday!
i really like this break down as you presented it -- it shows how if this game is yours to master there is a path ----very slow indeed but a path-- and you have shown how 2200 is obtainable to those that see the path -- 3 years 4 month a long time but then 2200 is quite a accomplishment at least for me looking at it - again thanks for sharing --- it will help some of us bottom feeders that need to see a goal presented to beat - wish i had 3 years but then it is what it is -- i feel also you still enjoy playing the game for what it is just a game - thanks
How much should I get to?
Just do a certain amount of time a day or week
I go for around 20 minutes of puzzles a week but usually do a lot more than that
