Bobby Fischer vs Magnus Carlsen
When Fischer played his rematch against Spassky in 92' his skills had diminished. If he were alive today, he would not be ruling chess. If Magnus got into his chess time machine and challenged Fischer and agreed to his terms and played for the championship in 1973, that would be amazing. We'll never know.
You know, there are players other than Fischer right?
Short answer: no.
Long answer: No chance what-so-ever.
Fischer at his best would be no match for Carlsen at his best.
Fischer fans will argue that the difference is only due to the use of chess engines in training. Ok. But Fischer didn't like to use computers and even Anand pointed out that Fischer didn't trust engines when he analyzed with Fischer.
Fischer fans will continue to make excuses.
Fischer was absolutely incredible. His very best would put him in the top ten in the world today!
But he would be no match for Carlsen.
If Fischer was alive, would he rule chess?
Fischer at his best is a great player, and one of the best all time. But...against Carlsen? Carlsen is just to good.
Well fischer at his peak was rated 2785 so I guess fischer in his prime could put up a decent fight against Carlsen. However I don't think he would be World Champion.
bobby the fish knew C18th openings like the back of his hand, so Carlsen would have no chance of getting out of the opening alive against bobby. you can even let Carlsen continue practice with alpha zero while bobby translates Russian chess publications, it's not going to make much difference.

Magnus hasn't lost in the Winawer in the last 15 years. Were I the highest rated super-GM of all time, I wouldn't be too worried about my opponent's opening theory.
Bobby Fischer was a legend, one can't compare player from two eras but i feel in his peak he was better than carlsen for sure. one can see his domination fir short period and difference between his rating vs the next player rating
If Carlson was alive in 72, there is no way he would beat fischer. If you think that you're crazy.
Well, yeah, he would of been 959 weeks premature. Probably still ELO 1700 though.
I wish I , we , could get an analysis from lela or stockfish on this. oh wow ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yR-rGsq9g8
