Chess Ghost Story
For all who like chess ghost stories, here's an episode from the Beyond Belief TV show I just remembered while reading the story again :)

How about the chess pieces representing a feuding family, and as they are lost on the board,so they die in real life,in various yet tragic
circumstances.(unbeknown to the players) until the end.they then realise they are the Kings and its their families who are dieing.

Weird, but fascinating.
Excellent ghost story! I loved reading it, and it reminds me a little bit of some of Edgar Allan Poe's work!😀
I noticed you wrote it in 2010 (10 years ago), and it's cool someone bumped it so we can still enjoy it.😊
Btw, I once saw a cool chess table in a museum, and I wrote a one-paragraph "micro-story" about it. You can see it here (pic and story):

I liked the story, but if I were writing it, I would have had the groundskeeper tell the main character after the fact that the chess board belonged to the previous owner of the house, and the previous caretakers had found pieces moved before. But not knowing how to play, they kept putting the pawn back at its starting position until they came in one day and found all the pieces scattered. Then they just let the pawn sit at e4. And maybe one of the previous caretakers had actually played a game against the ghost and lost, and something terrible had happened to him, which is why the supervisor told him not to touch anything.
Anyway, just throwing out ideas.
