Think Like a Grandmaster - by Alexander Kotov

Book Review, © Copyright 2003, Jim Loy

This is one of the classic chess books of all time. And it is fascinating and fun. The idea of the book is to teach you to analyze variations, accurately and efficiently. Whether you are a near beginner or a Master, this book will improve your game.

For checkers players (and other game players): I recommend this book for checkers players, as the basic ideas should work for any thinking game. A small part of the book requires no chess knowledge at all. About half of the book requires enough chess knowledge to make the moves, and recognize simple wins and losses, and know a little bit of chess terminology. And the other half of the book (chapter 2 - Positional Judgement, and chapter 4 - The Ending, and a little of the other chapters) require more chess skill. If you find these parts too difficult, just skip them or skim them just to get some idea what is going on. Read and reread chapter 1, and I think that you will be greatly rewarded.

I cannot believe that this guy hit the forums link, hit the new post, and took one minute of his life to write this. Its like if I would create a post, saying that lack of water is the main reason for being thirsty. Ah well.. I guess the american flag besides his name explains a lot of things :)

Sometimes certain things just need to be said. It's something we all do, in fact it's how I lost my last game. Besides, he's from L.A. cut him some slack. :P (joking, joking)

"I cannot believe" anyone too cheap to support Chess.com with the minimum premium membership "took  one minute of his life to create a post" to gratuitously insult the honorable flag of the United States of America as an excuse for attacking our supporting  member who pays his own way on this site. Sir, you are under no obligation to read this or any other post in this forum, and your unprovoked ill usage is confirmation that you are neither liberal-minded nor a gentleman.
