Is anyone famiilar with circular chess? I recently  got a catalog that had a set for $50. The catalog said that circular chess was an old form of chess that died out during medievel times. White sets up in the center and Black on the outer rim.

wikipedia:

Circular chess is a chess variant played using the standard set of pieces on a circular board consisting of four rings, each of sixteen squares. This is topologically equivalent to playing on the surface of a cylinder.

Greg the board in the catalog was different, it was a full circle, no hole in the middle, and the white pieces were set up in the middle, with their backs to each other, facing outward. The black pieces were set up on the outside rim, spaced apart with one pawn in front of each piece.
