Alright guys so I've had an idea for a new game mode for a while. Primarily, this is a positional change but still retains the same rules in chess. It's called Chariot Wars. In this game mode, each side has their pieces specifically arranged to resemble somewhat of a chariot and the armies on both sides. This layout was inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia.
So you have the King and the Queen sitting in the chariot.
The Rooks are like the wheels of the chariot, kind of creating it's shape (if you like fantasy, you could also imagine them as rocket blasters).
The Knights, obviously, are the horses in front of the ride, positioned as if it was carrying the chariot.
Then you have the army of Pawns on the third rank as white and the sixth rank as black (and yes, they have the same rules as the regular game, even including moving two squares on that pawn's first move).
Lastly, you have the Bishops meeting in the middle, and they're trying to negotiate.
White goes first, and they can either choose momentary peace (simply developing a piece) or instant war (Bishop takes Bishop, and chaos erupts).
So yeah, that's my game mode idea in its current form. I've been considering different rules, moves, and objectives to change the game even more. One idea in particular is a revamp of castling, since regular castling can't work here. I was thinking of a new move called "dismantling", where the chariot (consisting of the Knights, Rooks, the Queen, and the King) could dismantle itself and all these pieces would separate and scatter into a specific layout on it's own territory, all in one move. I've been thinking that it could be some specific layout (like a castle in regular chess) or even these pieces could be custom placed on an unoccupied square on their own four ranks. There are other rules I've been drafting, but this was my main addition to my game mode.
Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this
Edit: I also came up with another new move just now. What if the each side's chariot (Knights, Rooks, Queen, and King) could move together, either up, down, left, right, or diagonally, all in the same direction in one move. This could lead to some really interesting and strategic gameplay, with both sides having to figure out how to move their chariot and when (if at all) to dismantle.
