Jumbo Chess

Sort:

Dose any body own one of those jumbo 25" tall outdoor chess sets. I thought about getting one some time but want to know if they are practical and worth it.

if they're practical, they're too smallLaughing

A friend of mine got one.  He lives in a one room flat.  He bought it 'because it was a bargain'.  It is still in the box.  However, it was really cheap and quite good quality so it must be worth it I guess. (I think it only cost him about 10 pounds)

I would love to play on that set

Well if he gets tires of it, i'll be glad to take it off his hands. I have yet to find even one on e bay or anywhere else.

I think that I have seen them advertized before in chess magazines, but I recall them as being very expensive.

I think he got his from one of those really cheap places that sell anything they can get through auctions of bankcrupt stock.  I suppose if you keep an eye out you'll see one eventually

there is a down side to this aristkatt, they dont come with extra queens....

they are quite an oddity, personally, I got enough stuff to move around.

I seen"M" at wholesale chess.com $350.00

I have seen the ones at retail. I have thought about just buying a lathe for the 350, but it's kind of hard to turn a knight on a lathe.

Probely take about 700 bucks worth of effort anyway. And too heavy.

that would be fun!

when i used to work security at nortels head office they had one. we used to play with it in the middle of the night. It was cool. The pieces had wheels and everything and the board was part of the floor.
shadowslayer
oh I was thinking the pieces like 8 feet in the air and they TOWER over you.....
Aristokatt
Then you better make them 100 feet tall!Cool
savy_swede
it looks cool, but i'm sure once the novelty wears off it would just be a storage nightmare

I've got a barn full of novelty worn stuff. Stuff I need to sell for things like jumbo chess sets. Out with the old, in with the new. I will likely never grow tired of chess and several of my friends have been, or are getting into chess, so something like that would see some use spring, summer, and fall along with cook outs and such.

I saw one that is/was owened by the city of Mt. Brook, Al I will see if it is for sale. Their mayor is really a giving person he might even pay the shipping
Aristokatt
RedSoxpawn, that would be very cool, thanks!Laughing

I have known about them for years. My friends and neighbor's kids would have a blast. Would be a good way to get them interested in chess.
