Maximum Checkmating Moves Challenge

Create a legal position that has the highest possible number of moves that checkmate the enemy king. In this position, which is legal due to the black knight being there, white has 101 ways to checkmate black if I counted correctly. Can you beat it?

Add a rook to b1.

Position would then be illegal, as white already has 2 rooks and 9 queens, no pawn left to have promoted to a 3rd rook. Position has to be possible in a real game! That's why I put the black knight there, otherwise black would have had no legal last move.

Ok, put a knight on a5 then.

Knight on a5 adds 2 checks, but then ends up eliminating 2 checks on a4, so it cancels out. The knight on c1 only blocks 1 check from the queen on e1, so it adds 1 more check than it takes away. Adding knights on other squares actually lower the number of checkmates.

I came up with this position that has 126 legal checkmates:

It has to have a legal number of pieces and be a position possible in a real game!
