What is the most amount of pawns you have ever seen on one file?

The most I have seen is a mediocre 3. If I was a good player I would like to try and get 4-5 of my opponents pawns in a queue, (but I'm not). Show your games where you have created a pawn 'Conga' please.

I'd like to get all 8 on one file....... not ever gonna see it in a real game, though.  Frown

indeed, it's only possible to get 6 pawns on a file at once Smile
omnipaul
No..... it is possible to have 7 at once, but only for a part of the move.  Then you have to replace the seventh with something else.

In the chess universe time is quantized.  There is no such thing as 'half way through a move'.

This puzzle... Have I been up too long? If white is to move (Which would have to be Rook or King)- Then Black King is in Stalemate at a8.

 BTW, only 3 pawn conga for me....

the reason i didn't put it in puzzle format is also somethink that would give away the solution

1. Rd1     Kxa7
2. Rd6     Kb8
3. Rh6     Kc8
4. Rh7     Kd8
5. a7       Ke8
6. p->Qa8++

There may still be problems if the black king doesn't move quite the same, but I am working on them.

1. Rc1     Kxa7
2. Kd2     Kxa6
3. Rc6+   Kxa5
4. Kc3     Kxa4
5. Rc5     Kxa3
6. Ra5++

Nonsense, I've seen 7!  But it was after my little brother got pissed at me for taking his queen and threw all the pieces up in the air...  The wern't all standing upright, though...

millerthesmurf

iv only seen 3

how did you get the diagram to castle? i couldn't get the puzzle diagram to castle
Vance917
I'll bet you could get more than seven on a column -- and all standing upright and at full attention -- if you were playing on one of those 3-way or 4-way boards!  Also, if one is dyslexic (no disrespect intended here), then rows would appear to be columns and vice versa, so the starting position would appear to have eight pawns on the same column, right?

What about en passant?

judgeofthenight

en passant is a logic thing.
