If you mean for games online, like here at chess.com, you can move the pieces around on the computer screen already. I guess if you're going to go into deep analysis you would need an aditional board or something else that would allow you to move several moves deep. Good idea while I think while I write. LOL
Yes, I often set up the board in my living room to match a game here at chess.com. It's nice to see it on a real board and to play over the game by hand.
It's not so much to look for individual moves but rather the best over-all plan. Looking for the best move is always the last step in the process.
i mostly played otb chess but in March of this year started playing at several "postal" chess sites most of the early competition wasn't to strong. but lately as my rating has gone up & the comp. is stronger i find myself using 2 chess boards & 4 postal boards to shuffle the pieces around. i feel sometimes like i cheating(though it's completely legal in "postal" type games). i believe it could add a couple hundred points or more to your rating.
Does anyone setup an actual chess board at home to match their computer game? I am talking about to help you think a game through as concerns is this my best possible move? What will my opponent do if I do this?
