Dont expose Castled King....

Castling is helpful to protect the king and to bring out the rook. Dont compromise that sweet defense by grabing a piece with a pawn ever or this could happen to u...

Good example of why keeping your kingside pawns on the 2nd or 7th rank (in their starting position) is their strongest possible position.  One of the lasting things I learned from Logical Chess Move by Move.

I agree that is one of the most permanent lessons of that book.   I never touch those pawns unless I see a clear attempt at a bank rank mate comming.

Picking up with the queen was much better, although in some situations it could lead to an interesting attack after Kh8 and after Rg8, but in your situation you were creating weak double pawns and blocking your queen's way and not having so much prospect after Kh8 and Re8, especially after the loss of two tempo.

While exposing the king that way was pretty weak, I'd say the much worse move by white was putting his knight on f6 later, giving it away for free. The earlier mistake could have been overcome using that knight to aid in the defense, but instead, white lets black have the knight for free and put his queen on a better square while doing it.
