Dumbest draw ever

winning is always more acceptable than drawing is'nt it? the entire idea of competition in games is not to be mutually benefiting ... it's winning ... its not war where you take a draw on the left flank to crush the enemy on the right ... chess is a game  for 99.9% of even people who know the rules ... play to win ... real and arranged draws have prevented the sport from expanding into countries like the USA where BTW soccer cant find a foothold either.

Perhaps, Kevin. The difference between the 99% and the remaining 1% is that for the 99% it is a game where the outcome provides pleasure. For the remaining 1% it is their way of supporting themselves and a family so they have to include this factor in their calculations.

As for soccer, at least don't include Seattle. The team here has sold out all 32,000 available season tickets and (not surprisingly) all of their home games since joining the league three years ago. The Mariners in contrast sold 10,000 season tickets this year. I know many Americans having a hard time following a sport that doesn't include "Clap now" screens, frequent breaks, cheer leaders, halftime shows and silly dances. Personally, if I want to get entertained I go to a theatre. But you may feel differently.

This is a game between two GM's, which ended in a quick draw. Thoughts?

There have been shorter draws.

Its not really a dumb draw it is actually a very good one.

Black wants to control the e file with his rook but white keeps making the c7 threat.

If either diverts from there plan they will get a small disadvantage and in a GM game a small disadvantage is very major.

Seeing as white has over 100 less rating than black he was probably happy to draw, job well done.

White basically said, either give me a small advantage or I'm gonna draw the game which he did.this is what frankdwag wrote.according to me,i do not know what it means so i dont care about this comment.

I do not think that there is such a thing as a drawmaster.

If black played Na5 instead the chances of draw will be smaller.

Opening theory is full of places where White can force a draw if he wants to (e.g. the 6.Bg5 Najdorf has lots and lots of forced perpetual check lines in it).

The line that Black plays here is also one of those -- it leads to an interesting game, but it has the drawback that White can get a draw if he wants one. At the GM level, most players feel that a draw with Black is a good result, so that's ok with them.
