Longest individual notation?

Sort:
HackerDragon9999

it would be written as c2xd1=Q+ tho (type of captured piece is not specified in notation)

wait a minute... c2xd1 requires black to have 2 c-pawns attacking d1, which is impossible, so it would just be cxd1=Q+. To get back up to 8 characters replace pawns with stone generals (pawns that only move diagonal) for γcxd1=Q+

That's a lot of queens, but still only 7 characters.

dxc1=Q#

*idea* Duck chess!

dxc1=Q+ Θa8

If we are including move numbers, there can be an unlimited number of characters due to the fact that daily chess ignores the 50 move rule.

If not, 4 player variants will probably have the answer.

either Pawn(File)x(x2)Square)=(any promotion)+/# or (Piece)(Where it came from)x(Destination)+/#

Longest individual notation without move number I can think of:

1000. ... c2xNd1=Q+!! long enough? thats 22 characters if im not wrong

I think the proper notation is 1000... cxd1=Q+!!

Im pretty sure u can do smth like Qe7xNd5+

In my version, we take some liberties.

1. Assume it is move 7777 and it is white to move. This is still possible in the rules of chess.

2. Assume En Passant is notated (in this case with e.p.)

3. Allow Commentary (in this case !!)

4. Draw offers are notated with (=)

7777. d4
7777... cxd3e.p.#!!(=)

With a total of 22 Characters!!! (14 not including move number, 12 not including commentary, 5 not including non-standard notation like e.p. and (=)) this takes the top spot. Albeit, both white and black must have been drunk out of their minds after taking 12 beers and barely being able to move the pieces without falling off their chair and collapsing into the fetal position on the floor.

We can do more with annotations...

7777... (=) cxd3e.p.#!!N-/+ 0/1

7777... -> it is black to move on move 7777

(=) -> Black offers a draw, which is declined

cxd3 -> black plays cxd3, an en passant move

e.p. -> Notation for en passant

# -> checkmate

!! -> brilliant move

N -> Novelty (assume this is a VERY VERY long opening line)

-/+ -> Black is better (obviously)

0/1 -> White wins

With a total of 31 Characters!!! This takes the top spot.

ThanksForThatPawn

Correction:
0/1 -> Black wins

In algebraic notation, the captured piece is not specified.
