My first attempt at postgame analysis

So, I've been playing chess for about 6 or 7 weeks, and I started this game expecting to get manhandled in the name of analyzing the result and then asking the chess.com community for insight and advice on how to improve. That said, here's the episode in question with my post hoc thoughts:

I eagerly await your ideas and advice.

Your first big mistake comes on move 11, although you probably should have tried to predict it a little earlier.  The d5 move is just a bad idea here.  Probably the best thing in this circumstance would have been Rc8, but Ne8 would also have been good, I think.

I think your next error comes on move 14, where you move Nd4. Were I in your position, I would have unquestionably have moved Nxd5.  From there, you could have advanced Bf6, which would have set you up for Bh4, pinning the king.

Your Nxe2 was probably the right move to have made.  An interesting alternative would have been Qc5, which would have allowed for some interesting rook pins later on.

The rest of the game is fairly forced.

I agree that move 11 was the fatal mistake, up until this point the game was probably equal. Admittedly, he had exchanged a knight for a Bishop, but, that has little significance at this level. I think 11 Qd7 is probably the best move.

The opening looks much more solid than I would expect from a 1281 player, so kudos there! With regard to being your first attempt at post game analysis, I think it is a bit too descriptive. This probably reflects what you have been studying... As you opening is good, I suspect that you have looked at a lot of openings/positional material. However you missed a knight fork! This is unforgivable. To improve your game I suggest more time looking at studies and less at openings (I know... it's a major weakness of mine as well). When doing post-game analysis, don't be afraid to include variations that you considered, but rejected, this can only help your combinatorial vision.

All-in-all a good start!Laughing

Even though I am around your playing level Ill try to give it a shot to...

Besides not stoping the fork on move 11...

...12 maybe Qd7 giving the queen a bit more potential activity and take back with the rook

 ...14 take back with Nxd5

...16 don't really like Nxe2 as you said it doesn't really do anything I say improve another piece maybe the queen and let him make the exchange

...17 either b6 or Qc7 indirectly protecting the a7 pawn

after ...20 you said you didnt want him to have a queen and two rooks but im sure you have always heard the advice, when ahead you wanna trade...  well you are behind so Im sure the opposite would apply.  You take you most dangerous piece off the board.  That definately makes it easier for him to win and harder for you to WIN.  You just simplified what you could do.  Making it easier for him to get to an easy endgame.

 i guess that is all

hope that helped again im at the same level as yourself just my perspective on it.
