Quick mate!

OK, here's a game I just finished a few minutes ago that I'm very excited about. This is an example of why you shouldn't bring your queen out early, and why you shouldn't trade off pieces. This may be the quickest mate I've ever played!

I just want to thank you guys for sharing my games with you. I don't have many people around me that care much for chess so I'm really glad to have this site and you guys to help out. Thanks.

Good game! You said that this is an example of why not to trade pieces. There is no such rule. At least there is no general rule. It would be foolish to trade off pieces any chance you get, and doubly so if you were down material. However, this did not lead to mate. One blunder, and not castling, led to mate. The more material that gets traded off, the less likely a quick mate will be, and the more a draw is in prospect. So, for future reference; keeping the tension is generally good, but there is nothing wrong with trading pieces. Look to trade off material when you are material up or when making the trade will lead to an improvement in your position. Hope that helps.

In general, that's true, but 2...Qxd5 is not an mistake. I play this defense, and so have several GMs and WGMs. 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Nc3 are typical. Black began to go wrong with 3...Qd8?! (undeveloping the queen... Qa5 or Qd6 are better) ... and of course 11...Nxe5?? is what really did him in. I really like how you developed rapidly and spotted that mate.

reminds me of a quick mate between tartakower and reti. Nxe5?? i might as well consider Ng6.
